The snow is falling instead of the sun shining? Worry not, Munich still has fun outdoor winter activities to offer! Yes, you read that right. No matter what the weather, Munich and its surrounding areas offer plenty of activities despite the freezing weather.
So here are some winter activities you can enjoy in Munich as a family:
Eisstockschiessen
Eisstockschießen is a traditional Bavarian sport similar to curling. It’s a perfect way to spend quality time with your kids while enjoying the crisp winter air. There are many places around Munich where you can take your kids to go curling, you can find a list here
Ice skating

Sledging/Tobogganing
When it comes to sledging, thankfully there’s no shortage of snowy hills in Munich! Here’s a list of some of the snowy hills of Munich you can go to for sledging with your family:
- Monopteros in the English Garden – A classic with its central location and beautiful views
- Luitpoldberg – This location for sledging is the steepest in Munich – something to keep in mind for beginners or young children. However, there are gentler slopes for younger kids on the western side of the slope.
- Olympiaberg – The perfect location to combine ice skating & sledging! On the northern slope, just below the small beer garden, there is a snow tubing run when there is a lot of snow.
- Maximiliansanlagen – Another centrally located sledging place. This area has short slopes, making it ideal for younger kids.
- Ostparkberg – The best place for you to soak in the sun (due to the south-facing slope) as well as spend time in the snow.
- Aubinger Lohe – A slope that offers lots of space and fun for the entire family!

Visit Christmas Markets
This list of winter activities would be incomplete without mentioning the majestic Christmas markets of Germany! Most Christmas markets start from the end of November and operate till the 24th of December.
If you don’t want to venture out too far, not an issue, Munich city itself has more than 12 Christmas markets to offer that offer wonderful fun for the entire family!
