Animal Farm: Wildpark Poing near Munich

Located just outside of Munich, Wildpark Poing is a fun day trip for the entire family! I mean, who doesn’t love surrounded by cute animals in the woods.

We recently went to the park with our 16 month old and here’s a review to help you understand what to expect!

How to Get there via Public Transport

A pro in Wildpark Poing’s favor: You don’t need a car to get there! 🥳 It’s pretty straightforward with the train – You will need to hop on the S2 in the direction of Erding. From Hauptbahnhof, the journey is about 30 mins. However, once you reach your stop “Poing” – there’s a 20 minute walk to the actual wild park.

Entry: Ticket & Timings

We used our Munich Family Pass and got to have one free adult entry and one discounted (10 euros instead of 11.50) – so would highly recommend getting this year’s family pass here. Otherwise here are the prices for adults and children (<3 are free)

adult€11.50
child  – 3-14 years  €7.50

For those of you who are like us and don’t like to carry around cash – you can pay with a card at the entrance! We would also highly suggest to get some food for the animals at the entrance. It only costs 50 cents per bag (you can also get them later on as there are vending machines all over the park)

As for the timings, they have different opening hours for summer and winter.

Summer admission (01.04.-01.11.): 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m

Winter admission (02.11.-31.03.): 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m

What to Expect from Wildpark Poing

One thing we absolutely loved was how big and open the area is. No mater how crowded it seems at the entrance, you don’t end up feeling it once you enter the park because of its layout.

As soon as you enter, you’re greeted by deers who are behind a fence but have a wide area to themselves to mimic their natural habitat. They are super friendly and definitely know how to use their cuteness to get the food they know you’re packing.

Later on at the park there are also deers roaming around freely waiting for you to feed and interact with them, this was definitely our favorite part!

Apart from deers, you can expect sheep, goats, donkeys, guinea pigs, rabbits, ducks, bisons, wild pigs, peacocks, bears, eagles, owls, wolves, falcons, and more! Apart from the deers, goats and peacocks, all the other animals are separated with a fence in between.

There are also plenty of benches all around the area as well as picnic areas with tables for you to sit an enjoy a bite to eat! We would highly suggest bringing snacks for yourself and the kids and enjoy a little picnic.

One great resting spot for the parents can be the Wildpark Poing Playground! We have personally never seen a playground quite like this anywhere else in Munich. Let me tell you, it’s not just for the kids, it was fascinating to me as an adult 😅 There’s so much to do for toddlers as well as older kids from a water park area to manoeuvring pirate ships and playing pretend in little huts and shops. There are also the classic swings, gigantic slides, merry go rounds, climbing ropes and unique things like using an excavator and digging through the dirt.

You should easily reserve an hour for the playground – and the great thing is that there’s a kiosk right next to it so you can get something to eat or drink while the kids enjoy the playground!

Tips & Information

  • Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes since the park is pretty big
  • Expect to spend at least 4 hours here
  • There’s a kiosk near the playgrounds but we’d also suggest bringing your own water and snacks (all the walking around is bound to make you all hungry)
  • You can bring carrots and apples from home to feed the goats
  • You can get food (futter) to feed the animals from the entrance or from any of the vending machines scattered all over the park (it costs 50 cents)
  • We would suggest to pack sunscreen and hats, especially if its a warm day
  • The park is stroller friendly
  • Buy the Munich Family pass to get discounts on entry (1 free adult entry + 1 subsidised)

Hope you find this helpful! We’d definitely recommend Wildpark Poing as a day trip – especially if you have an animal lover on your hands!
