April is a funny time here in Munich – one day it’s sunny and you’re in shorts and the next there’s a snow prediction 👀 but here’s a super easy trail for you to explore even in the not-so-sunny days 🥳
Just 2 hours away from Munich, Partnachklamm is actually a great little adventure that is super easy to do as a family.
The walk is pretty straightforward without any particularly steep areas, making it ideal for even beginners. Plus you’ll be in such awe of the beauty around you that the time flies by! When we went 2 weeks ago, the last part of the gorge was closed so it took us 1 hour to walk around the open parts.
It’s definitely a unique experience and if you have kids that love water then they’re bound to be fascinated. Our 16 month old just looked in awe 😍 – also, the hike can be a bit slippery due to the water falling down from the gorge so make sure you’re wearing good shoes and I’d also recommend bringing water as well as a little snack for the little one in case they get hungry during the hike.
The most IMPORTANT TIP however, is to definitely get a ticket online. There were such long lines at the ticket counter and I was shocked and couldn’t understand why more people weren’t just getting it online. Visit the partnachklamm.de website and buy it online to skip the long waits because even at the entrance you might encounter a line since they make sure the gorge doesn’t get too crowded.
Other important tips for visiting Partnachklamm with kids:
🚫 Make sure you bring a carrier with you if you’re taking along your baby or toddler since strollers are not allowed inside the gorge. You can leave the strollers outside at the ticket checking area.
🚂 In order to reach Partnachklamm via public transportation, get on a train from Hauptbahnhof and make sure it goes to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Once you reach there, you will need to get on the bus ‘ Klinikum, Garmisch-Partenkirchen’ and get off at ‘Skistadion, Garmisch-Partenkirchen’ from this point it’s about a 20 minute steady walk to the gorge.
🎟️ Adult ticket costs 7.50€ – kids under 6 are free and for 6-17 year olds it costs 3€
🕜 Arrive at least 30 mins before closing time.
– October to May – it is open 8 am to 6 pm
– June to September it is 8 am to 8 pm
📢 Always check their openings on Google maps. For e.g at this moment they are closed for construction till April 30th, 2024.
Hope you and your family has a great time!
