Almbachklamm: Kid Friendly Hike

We have found our favourite new klamm in Germany! Nestled near the quaint town of Marktschellenberg, this gorge not only has absolutely beautiful views but lets you enjoy them first hard by offering access to certain parts next to the water! Proving to be ideal for some water play and a little picnic.

Almbachklamm also isn’t too challenging, making it a great outing for families with kids or just casual hikers. One of the highlights of the klamm is definitely the Sulzer waterfall, which is truly a sight to behold and where our toddler easily spent a good 30 minutes just being fascinated by the water 😍 Another amazing thing about the Almbachklamm is that it leads up to various hikes so if you don’t have to restrain yourself to only the klamm.

We did this trip as a day trip and drove to the klamm (about 2 hours from Munich) – you can also find a public transport route that we shared below.

Important tips for visiting Almbachklamm with kids:

🚫 Strollers are not allowed: Make sure you bring a carrier with you if you’re taking along your baby or toddler since strollers are not allowed. You can leave the strollers outside at the ticket checking area if you’re doing a round-trip.

🚂 How to get there: We went there with a car rented from Sixt.de – but you can also take public transportation but keep in mind to check the route since it’s not as straightforward sometimes. Here’s a link to a route you can take via public transport.

🎟️ Tickets & Payment: Adults: 8 € – Children under 6 years are free — Card is not accepted so remember to bring along cash.

ℹ️ Info on Hiking Routes: There’s an English Brochure about the gorge shared on their website which shows you a history of the gorge along with routes to some of the hikes you could embark on. Check it out here

🙅🏻‍♀️ Gorge Closure: The gorge is closed in winters. It is typically open from end of April to October – check their timings here

🌞 What to Bring: Sturdy footwear, water, snacks and a change of clothes for the little ones since there are parts of the hike where you can walk down to the water and kids can play in the small streams of water.

Hope you enjoy your trip! 😃
