There’s a quiet truth in many family photo albums and phone galleries:
Moms are missing.

Not because they aren’t there—mothers are always there, behind the scenes, behind the camera, making sure everyone else’s memories are captured. But somewhere along the way, they step out of the frame. Whether it’s due to busy hands, self-doubt, or simply putting everyone else first, moms often forget (or hesitate) to include themselves in the story they’re helping to create.

But here’s why that matters—for their children, and for themselves.

The Photos Your Children Will Treasure Most

Studies show that children who grow up seeing photos of themselves surrounded by love—laughing, playing, cuddling—develop a stronger sense of self-worth and belonging. These images become daily reminders: You are loved. You are safe. You are part of something beautiful.

But imagine the message when mom is in those photos too.

When children see their mother’s face next to theirs—not just capturing the moment but living it—they see proof of connection, joy, and unconditional love. They see that she was there, fully present in their story.Years from now, those images won’t be judged by perfect hair or ideal outfits. They’ll be cherished because they show togetherness—the kind of everyday magic that only grows more precious with time.

For Moms: More Than a Memory

Motherhood is beautiful—but it can also be overwhelming, messy, and full of moments where you lose sight of yourself in the whirlwind of caring for others.

I’ve spoken with so many mothers who hesitate to book a session because they don’t feel “camera-ready.” Whether it’s postpartum body changes, exhaustion, or simply feeling unseen in this new identity—stepping in front of the lens can feel vulnerable.

But here’s what I tell every mom:
You are worthy of being in the frame—exactly as you are right now.

When I photograph mothers with their children, something shifts. I see the way their kids look at them—with pure adoration, not noticing a thing except “That’s my mama.” These sessions become more than photos—they’re a reminder to mothers of their place in the heart of their family and the importance of why mothers need to be in the frame. A reflection of love, strength, and presence during a season of life that passes far too quickly.

A Grandfather’s Thoughtful Gift

Not long ago, a grandfather reached out to me looking to book a session for his daughter:

“Between you and me, the main reason to do this is some family photos. They have tons of C, but when we last visited, I noticed not a single one of the three of them together and none of them with O. I thought it would be lovely to have pictures of all three of them at this age.”

His gesture stuck with me. He was observant and considerate and wanted to gift his daughter something meaningful. It wasn’t about perfect portraits—it was about making sure that everyone, especially mom, was part of the visual legacy this family would carry forward.

It’s Time for Moms to Step Into the Frame

Whether it’s a cozy in-home session, a playful afternoon in one of Munich’s beautiful parks, or a quiet moment captured with a newborn—these images matter.

Not because they’re flawless. But because they’re real.So to every mom reading this (and to every partner, friend, or grandparent who sees her value):
Make sure she’s in the picture—not just for today, but for the years to come when these moments will mean everything.
