If you’re looking for a relaxed, fun, and totally unique activity with the kids this summer, the Open-Air Cinema at Olympiapark (Kino am Olympiasee) is such a vibe.
We recently went, and honestly — we loved it. There’s something about watching a movie outdoors, in a relaxed and family-friendly environment.
🏞️ Location, setup & seating
The cinema is set right by the lake in Olympiapark, making it an extra scenic spot for a summer afternoon or evening. You can choose to sit on their reclined beach chairs (super comfy!), settle into the shaded booths, or do it picnic-style and bring your own blanket or mat.
💡 Tip: If you sit out in the open on a beach chair, grab one of the free umbrellas from the entrance booth to get some shade.
There are clean toilets available on-site too,
🍿 Food & Drinks
They’ve got snacks covered – expect all the good stuff: fresh popcorn, drinks, and a few warm food options.
Here’s what we love: you’re allowed to bring your own food! So pack a picnic (or hit a bakery before), but the catch is: you’ll need to buy your drinks from the venue — kinda like a beer garden. Works out great, honestly.

🎞️ What kind of movies?
They show a mix of films, from big blockbusters to special screenings, and there are family-friendly and even children’s-specific movies scheduled throughout the summer.
So you can plan a date night, a family activity or even grab some friends with kids and go all together!
🛝 Bonus: Enjoy Olympia Park before or after
You can totally turn it into a full day out. Before or after the movie, explore Olympiapark – there’s so much to do. We usually stop by one of the nearby playgrounds or stroll by the water. You could even ride a pedal boat earlier in the day if you’re up for it!
