Discover Munich’s Deutsches Museum: Fun Science for Kids & Families
For the days you don’t want to be outside but also not stuck inside your apartment, Munich museums are a great distraction. One of our favorites being: The Deutsches Museum. Located on Museumsinsel 1, this iconic institution is a haven for everyone, including families. It offers a blend of interactive exhibits, historical artefacts and hands-on experiences.
What Makes the Deutsches Museum Special?
As one of the world’s largest museums dedicated to science and technology, the Deutsches Museum boasts over 45,000 square meters of exhibition space. With 20 permanent exhibitions covering topics from astronautics to robotics, chemistry to classical optics, there’s something to fascinate every visitor. Visit their website for even more detailed information: deutsches-museum.de
The Deutsches Museum is huge and you can easily spend half a day here exploring new things at every turn.
Parts of the museum that we particularly loved:
🚂 Trains & Planes – Climbing into old locomotives and seeing giant airplanes up close? A total hit. We easily spent a big chunk of our time here
🌍 Astronomy Section – So much to learn about the planets and our universe here!
⚡ Electricity & Lightning Demonstrations – This was an extremely cool experience and also our toddler was in a trance seeing it all the cool lights and sparks.
Kids’ Kingdom: A Playground of Discovery
For families with children aged 3 to 8, the Kids’ Kingdom (Kinderreich) is a must-visit. Located on Level -1, this interactive space is designed to introduce young minds to the wonders of science and technology through play. Children can climb into a real fire engine, experiment with water play, navigate a marble run, and explore tactile models. Honestly, just so much to enjoy here!
