Exploring the Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum 🚂

If you’re looking for a fun indoor activity that is fun for the entire family, the Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum might just be your next family favorite!

This museum had been on my list for ages — and after finally visiting, I can confirm: it absolutely lives up to the hype. If you or your child are obsessed with cars, trains, or anything that moves, this place is a total dream come true.

From historic trams that once ran through Munich to sleek modern vehicles, the collection is fascinating for both kids and adults. You can even step inside some of the old trains and carriages, which makes it such a hands-on experience. One of the carriages even moves – giving you a glimpse into what travel felt like decades ago.

💡 Tip: Some carriages are open for sitting or exploring, so don’t hesitate to ask one of the friendly guides which ones the kids can try!

🌍 “Thin Ice” Exhibition – A Cool Bonus

Currently, there’s a super engaging exhibition called “Thin Ice” – it’s live till November 9th, 2025 and it’s so well done. You’ll see real equipment used by Arctic researchers and learn about life in extreme cold. There are also hands on activities to try – my favorite was searching for hidden polar bears using binoculars.

✈️ The Museum at large

Apart from the exhibition, the Museum itself is really cool showcasing the history of how humans used to move around in the world. You can see everything from medieval horse drawn carriages to the latest German fast trains.

The Museum also has old ubahns and buses that used to run in the city of Munich – so it’s pretty cool to step in them and compare to the ones we have now.

🧸 For the Little Ones

Even beyond the exhibits and museum, the indoor play area here deserves its own shoutout. There’s a huge slide, massive building blocks, and coloring tables, plus plenty of benches for parents to relax and snack while keeping an eye on the kids. And I have to admit, the massiv building blocks were pretty fun to play with.
