Where to get English Books in Munich: The Munich Readery

If you love the smell of books, a quiet corner to sip your coffee and read in peace — I think I’ve found the place for you! The Munich Readery ticks all of those boxes (and more).

Found on Augustenstraße 104, this cozy secondhand English bookstore is packed with novels, comics, poetry and even a small kids’ corner with books and toys.

What I absolutely loved is how peaceful it felt inside. There’s no rush, no one hurrying you along, just you, your book, and the option to order a hot drink (yes, coffee and hot chocolate!) while you browse or sit down to read.

A Genius Book Exchange System 📖

Here’s the coolest part: you can buy books, read them, and return them for 40% store credit to get new ones! So if you’re short on space or like to rotate your reads, this system is just perfect. You can pay with card too – just note it’s from €12 and up.

Things to Know before your Visit ✨

Even though the books are secondhand, most of them are in great condition. And what’s really nice about visiting a real bookstore is coming across titles you’d never think to search for online. It’s the kind of place that expands your reading universe one unexpected find at a time 😅

And if you’re not sure what to pick, the staff are friendly and happy to recommend something based on your taste.

The Munich Readery regularly hosts free events like children’s readings, poetry workshops, and even offers poem of the week prints you can take home. Check their website www.readery.de for upcoming events.

Oh and they have an adorable bookstore dog 🐶 (I missed him this time, but I’m already planning my next visit !)

Pricing 💶

To give you an idea, I got two books for myself and one for my toddler — all for €20.
