Walking with Alpacas in Bavaria – A Unique Day Trip from Munich
Some things sit on your bucket list for ages and when you finally tick them off, they’re even better than you imagined. For me, that was walking with Alpacas. And let me tell you: it was worth the wait. 🥹
On our recent camping trip, we randomly came across Isar Alpakas in Wackersberg, just an hour outside Munich. I booked us in last minute (thankfully Sofie, the owner, had availability) and it turned out to be one of the absolute highlights of our trip. Here’s everything you need to know if you want to plan your own visit with these fluffy, gentle creatures.
Meeting Sofie & the Alpacas 🦙✨
When we arrived the next morning, we were greeted by Sofie and her herd of adorable Alpacas. Each of us was given an Alpaca for the walk — yes, even our toddler got one! She had Luki, the sweetest Alpaca of them all, who kept bending down to give her little kisses. 🥰
The walk itself is super relaxed and perfect for families. It lasts about an hour, with plenty of stops along the way. We strolled through meadows, down to the river Isar, and even fed the Alpacas apples. Sofie guided us patiently, teaching us how to lead “our” Alpacas and answering every question we had.
The Experience: Calm, Playful & Unforgettable 🌿
What I loved most? The whole thing felt unhurried and peaceful. No rushing, no stress — just us, nature, and the Alpacas. It was such a kid-friendly experience too. The Alpacas are incredibly gentle, so even our little one felt comfortable holding the leash.
