Guide to Hosting Kids’ Birthday Parties in Munich: Outdoors Edition

Planning a birthday party for your child in Munich? Look no further! Munich offers various outdoor venues to celebrate your little one’s special day. From charming parks to exciting fun day out with animals, there’s something for every birthday boy or girl.

In this guide, I’m putting together some options for you to explore the next birthday bash in your family!

1. Tierpark Hellabrunn (Zoo)

  • 📍 Location: Tierparkstraße 30, 81543 München
  • 💶 Admission: Adult ticker: 18 euros and Kids (4-14): 7 euros
  • 🕰️ Opening Time: Open daily from 9 AM to 5 or 6 PM
  • 📝 Details: Treat your child to a wild birthday adventure at Hellabrunn Zoo, where they can explore fascinating animal exhibits and learn about wildlife conservation. The Zoo offers various birthday themes such Animal Olympics, Hellabrunn Jungle Book or a visit to the “scariest animals” etc.

2. Blindham Bergtierpark

  • 📍 Location: Blindham 3, Blindham 1-3, 85653 Aying
  • 💶 Admission:
    • Adults: 10,00€
    • Children up to 15 years: 9,00 €
    • Children under one year:  Free only with proof
      –> Remember to bring cash as card is not accepted!
  • 🕰️ Opening Time: 10 AM to 6 PM
  • 📝 Details: A wildlife park located near Munich. It offers a variety of native and exotic animals, including deer, wild boars, and birds. The park is designed to be an interactive and educational space where visitors can learn about animals in a natural setting. It also features an amazing indoor playground and a petting zoo.

3. Iffeldorf Animal Farm

  • 📍 Location: Osterseehof 1, 82393 Iffeldorf
  • 💶 Admission:
    • Adults: 11.50€
    • Children from 5 years: 6.50 €
    • Children up to 4 years:  Free
  • 🕰️ Opening Time: Wednesday to Sunday, 9 AM to 6 PM
  • 📝 Details: Iffeldorf is home to around 300 rescued animals, including many cats, dogs, horses, donkeys and cattle etc. Here you can interact with these animals and later enjoy a bite to eat at their cafe.

4. Poing Animal Farm

  • 📍 Location: Wildparkstr. 32, 85586 Poing
  • 💶 Admission:
  • Adult: 11,50 €
  • Children (3-14 years): 7,50 €
  • Children under 3 are free
  • 🕰️ Opening Time: The park is open everyday from 9 AM to 5 PM but closes at 4 PM in the winter
  • 📝 Details: A popular wildlife park that offers visitors a chance to observe native animals in their natural setting! You can find sheep, goats, donkeys, rabbits, ducks, falcons, and more! Some of them can be found roaming around freely with a chance to feed them – making it an ideal activity for kids!

5. Kletterwald

  • 📍 Location: am Walderlebniszentrum in Grünwald
  • 💶 Admission: Check pricing based on the number of people you plan to invite here.
  • 🕰️ Opening Time: Check their calendar here and opening timings are from 10 AM to 7 PM
  • 📝 Details: For the climbing fans out there, what better way to celebrate than enjoying their favorite hobby with friends in nature! Keep in mind that your kids need to be 8 or above in order to celebrate their birthday here. In the birthday package your kids will be able to enjoy up to 4 hours of climbing fun! 6. Botanical Garden Munich

  • 📍 Location:
    • Main Entrance – Menzinger Straße 65, 80638 Munich
    • South entrance – Maria Ward Straße (crossing the Nymphenburg Palace Park)
  • 💶 Admission: Adult tickets cost 5.50 euros – you can also get them online here.
  • 🕰️ Opening Time: The Garden is open everyday, generally from 9 AM to 6 PM but hours differ between summer and winter – you can view them here
  • 📝 Details: Enjoy an outdoor/indoor birthday celebration by walking through the wonderful Munich Botanical gardens and ending the day at their Cafe! Do remember to make a reservation beforehand at their cafe!

7. Nymphenburg Palace

  • 📍 Location: Neuhausen-Nymphenburg, 80638 Munich
  • 💶 Admission: If you want to go inside the castle, the tickets are: 8 euros. There are no costs for visiting the gardens however.
  • 🕰️ Opening Time: No opening timings for the gardens.
  • 📝 Details: What’s not to love about a birthday picnic in lush gardens with a view of a castle and ducks waddling around. There’s also a nice little gated area where a small stream runs, making it ideal for little ones to enjoy some water play. You can find it here

8. Outdoor Swimming Pools

We have absolutely loved spending time at the Pools this year! Such a great way to spend time as a family and a great spot for a picnic birthday! Here are some of the outdoor pools across Munich that we like (this is not a full list of all pools in Munich – just the ones we enjoy)

  • Dantebad: Outdoor area with multiple pools and slides, water play area for kids, life-sized chess game and a little kiosk for drinks and snacks!
  • Ungererbad: Great family-friendly area with various pools with slides, a kids water area, a nice playground, a huge trampoline and a little kiosk for drinks and snacks!
  • Marie Einsiedel: A natural pool with water from the Isar, it even has a part of the Isar flowing through where you can float along the river. It definitely offers a unique swimming experience!

9. Beer Gardens

If you’re in the mood for a chill birthday then what better way than to embrace the Bavarian love for beer gardens. You can check out this list of beer gardens that include a playground, making them a great location for a birthday!

10. Parks

Another great outdoor option is to celebrate in any of the many beautiful parks of Munich! Depending on where you are, you have options such as:

  • English Garden (Englischer Garten)
  • Westpark
  • Ostpark
  • Hirschgarten
  • Olympia Park
  • Luitpold Park

    Some of the birthday activities you can enjoy at these parks include: hosting a picnic with outdoor games, spending time at a beer garden nearby, spending time at a playground or enjoying some water play at the shallow areas of the Isar.

    At Hirschgarten, you can also view the deers or go paddle boating at Olympia park or English Garden.

11. Hofreiter Beerencafe

  • 📍 Locations: Feldmoching/Lochhausen/Johanneskirchen/Pasing Adventure Field/Unterhaching  Adventure Field

12. Mini Golf

  • 📍 Location: Spiridon-Louis-Ring 22, 80809 München
  • 🕰️ Opening Time: Everyday from 12.00 to 8 PM (last entry at 7 PM)
  • 💶 Admission:
  • Adults: 6 euros
  • Children (Up to 14 years of age): 5 euros
  • 📝 Details: A fun activity that kids and families can enjoy as a group! There’s also a beer garden close by for you to enjoy some food afterwards.
