A Toddler Adventure at Hirschgarten: Park in Munich

Hirschgarten Munich

If you’re looking for the perfect family-friendly outing in Munich, Hirschgarten should be at the top of your list! Nestled in the heart of the city, this sprawling park is home to Munich’s largest beer garden, a deer enclosure where kids can see and feed deer for free, and plenty of playgrounds to keep little ones entertained.

A Fun Start: Meeting the Deer

One of the best parts of Hirschgarten is the deer enclosure. As soon as we arrived, my toddler was fascinated by the gentle deers that roamed inside. We brought along some apples and carrots (which are safe for them to eat) and had a wonderful time watching the deer come up close. It’s completely free to visit, making it a great, budget-friendly activity for families.

Right next to the deers, you’ll find Munich’s largest beer garten: Königlischer Hirschgarten

Playground Paradise

Hirschgarten offers multiple playgrounds spread across the park. Our favorite has to be the Elefanten-Spielplatz im Hirschgarten From swings to climbing frames, sandpits, and slides, there’s something for kids of all ages. My toddler particularly loved the wooden structures and little bridges. Right next to it is another playground that has a water area in the summers.

With its wide-open green spaces, paved paths perfect for strollers and balance bikes, and shady tree-lined areas, there’s plenty of room to run, explore, and burn off energy. When the weather is nice there are also spots in the park where you can have a barbeque.
